Class Summary:
We will be making the Patchwork Duffle Mini zippered duffle style travel bag where we will learn zipper installation, making handles, making and installation of continuous bias binding. You will be making the patchwork exterior (or you can choose to use a single exterior fabric) and quilting the layers on your own. (see tutorials below).

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

Complete Prior to Class:
Please cut out exterior, end panels and pockets, (exterior and lining fabric) as well as soft and stable or batting) handles and zipper binding and pocket binding prior to class. Machine quilt as desired the exterior, end panels and pockets. NOTE this took some time. You can cut out the bias binding if you wish but we will talk about this in class.

Required Supplies:
  • Patchwork Duffle Mini Pattern (available in the shop)
  • Exterior Fabric, lining fabric as per pattern
  • Strapping if you are covering the handles, or cotton webbing as per pattern
  • Zipper 30” – either a double pull or single pull purse nylon coil zipper
  • Soft and Stable (1 yard package)
  • Thread and bobbin matching or coordinating with your fabrics
  • Stitch ripper
  • Fabric scissors and all-purpose scissors (to cut the zipper)
  • Sewing clips
  • Pins
  • Sewing machine needles (Jean) (extra in case of breakage)
  • Sewing machine in good working order, be sure you are familiar with your machine
  • Rotary cutter, mat – large if you have it, ruler approx. 6” x 18” or similar
  • Zipper foot, regular sewing foot and walking foot if you have one.
  • Stiletto such as By Annie is very helpful but not required (it is a great quilting tool as well)
  • Marking tool of your choice suitable to mark your fabric.(you will want to have something that will show up on your fabric)
Fabric and zipper selection:
  • If you are new to sewing zippers, selecting a color that matches your fabric and using thread the same color will help hide irregularities.
  • Fabric with a larger design tends to work best for the exterior
