Come join us to create this fun quilt made with 5” squares. Clever cutting techniques with the Stripology ruler will help us easily create blocks at an angle with very little waste. The sashing on this quilt really makes it stand out.
Stripology Mixology 2 book (**make note of the pattern corrections that come with the book)
Stripology ruler - Stripology Squared ruler is preferred but the XL will also work
Charm packs or 5” squares (see pattern requirements for the desired quilt size )
Background and Accent fabrics (starching these fabrics before cutting is highly recommended)
GEasy Ruler Stickers (highly recommended)
General Sewing Supplies
¼” foot made for your sewing machine
Sewing Machine in good working condition (with the manual and accessories)
Spare Needles and bobbins
Thread and full bobbin
Rotary cutter and extra blade(s)
**Additional information about fabric choices:
Choose equal numbers of lights and darks, coordinated scrappy fabrics, or 2 color groups (equal numbers of the two colors).
Background and accent fabrics for sashing - The background should really stand out from the fabrics chosen and the sashing should complement/match the colors but also stand out. (diagonal stripes and diagonal plaids work well)
It would be helpful if students starch and cut their background and accent fabrics. The sashing for this quilt is much more effective if it has a distinct overall pattern so that it stands out from the 5” squares and has some movement (such as the store sample and the quilt pictured in the book). Keep in mind that the accent fabric can also look great as the binding for this quilt.
There are pattern corrections that are included with the book and should be pointed out so students purchase the right amount of fabric. (see next page)
In a Youtube video, Gudrun talked about fabric choice starting at about the 29:18 mark https://youtu.be/piHGlit18Hw Prior to class, students can use this information to begin thinking about how their squares will be put together.
This QR code can also take students to the Youtube video.
