Description
Class:
Oxbow Tote
Date:
Saturday | August 16, 2025
Class Duration:
10am-2pm
Fee:
$35.00
Instructor:
Allison Swink
Skill Level Required to Register:
Confident Beginner - Intermediate
Class Summary:
A great tote for overnight or weekend travel with exterior and interior pockets and a zipper top and handles with a shoulder strap.
Techniques
– Zipper installation, working with webbing and basic bag construction techniques.
PRECLASS PREPARATION:
Quilting the foam and exterior fabric
ahead of class is required
(you will NOT be quilting the exterior, foam interfacing, and lining together! – I used scrap quilting cotton sandwiched with the exterior and foam.)
Required Supplies:
Noodlehead Oxbow tote pattern (Available at SewEndipitous®)
Fabric for bag bottom, I used cork, you could also use quilting cotton with vinyl
Zipper (30 inch)
Soft and Stable Polyester Foam (yardage per pattern)
Backing fabric for quilting sandwich using the same yardage as the exterior fabric and Soft and Stable. (The backing fabric can be muslin or an inexpensive cotton. The exterior fabric, Soft and Stable and this backing fabric are used to make the bag exterior.)
Webbing 1 ½” wide per pattern
Heavyweight interfacing such as Peltex 72F per pattern for bag bottom
Light fusible woven interfacing such as SF101
Strap hardware per pattern (NOTE it calls for 1” D rings and 1 ½ “ strap slider and swivel snaps)
Thread and bobbin in a coordinating color, standard sewing supplies including seam ripper, pins, clips, sewing machine needles, fabric scissors
Sewing machine in good working order and your sewing machine manual. Be sure you are familiar with your machine.
Rotary cutter, cutting mat, rotary cutting rulers approx. 6” x 6” and small approx. 3” x 3”
Marking pencil of your choice
1/4” sewing machine foot for your machine and standard sewing machine foot (you will be stitching both ¼” seams and ½” seams)
Class Supplies:
¼” foot made for your sewing machine
Sewing Machine in good working condition (with the manual and accessories)
Pins
Wonder Clips
Spare Needles (I prefer an 80/12 needle) - a brand new needle is essential
Snipping Scissors
Neutral Thread and full bobbin(s)
Seam ripper
Rotary cutter - a brand new blade is essential for cutting and trimming accuracy
Cutting mat - must have your own for this project
Pressing mat
Portable iron
Recommended:
Cleaning your machine on a regular basis (and before a class) helps it to work efficiently and helps you to avoid issues while in class. A new needle and a change of your rotary cutter blade also adds to your success with a new project.
Important Considerations:
All attendees are respectfully asked to refrain from wearing perfumes and scented lotions/oils due to allergy and olfactory sensitivities of some students and instructors.
Additionally, must be 18 years or older to register unless otherwise approved by instructor in advance.
Tardy/Late arrivals greater than 15 minutes from class start time will not be admitted and no refunds will be issued.
Classes and Events are Non-Refundable Without Exception Unless:

You cancel 30 days prior to the Class/Event.
The instructor cancels.
