Class Summary: In this class, you’ll build skills to help you create mitered binding strips that will then be applied to a small sample project that will be provided for you in a class kit. All of the skills learned can be easily applied to any quilted project that you need to bind.

Required Supplies:

(2) 2 ½” x width of fabric strips - color/pattern does not matter, these should be cut before class
A small ruler such as a 2 ½” x 6 ½” or a 6 ½” square or similar
A walking foot made for your machine (essential for this project). A walking foot is designed to work together with the feed dogs to evenly move the layers of fabric through your machine. Note: Some machines have an Integrated Dual Feed (IDF) function (or similar) that works to do the same thing as a walking foot. Please be sure that you know whether your machine has an IDF or if you need to purchase a walking foot before the class. Let us know if you have any questions regarding this so we can help you be prepared for success in the class.
Folded Corner Clipper - this tool helps create mitered seams in fewer steps than traditional methods. While we do not require it for this class (other methods of joining strips will be taught) it is very useful, not only for joining binding strips but for other techniques used in piecing a quilt.

Class Supplies:

¼” foot made for your sewing machine
Sewing Machine in good working condition (with the manual and accessories)
Pins
Spare Needles (I prefer an 80/12 needle) - a brand new needle is essential
Snipping Scissors
Neutral Thread and full bobbin(s)
Seam ripper
Rotary cutter - a brand new blade is essential for cutting and trimming accuracy
Cutting mat - must have your own for this project
Pressing mat
Portable iron

Recommended: Cleaning your machine on a regular basis (and before a class) helps it to work efficiently and helps you to avoid issues while in class. A new needle and a change of your rotary cutter blade also adds to your success with a new project.

Important Considerations:

All attendees are respectfully asked to refrain from wearing perfumes and scented lotions/oils due to allergy and olfactory sensitivities of some students and instructors.
Additionally, must be 18 years or older to register unless otherwise approved by instructor in advance.
Tardy/Late arrivals greater than 15 minutes from class start time will not be admitted and no refunds will be issued.

Classes and Events are Non-Refundable Without Exception Unless:

You are able to find another person to take your spot.
You cancel 30 days prior to the Class/Event.
The instructor cancels.
